Napoleon Effect?
  • Napoleon took over Spain, which ruled Venezuela, and replaced Charles V with his son Ferdinand VII
  • Later, Napoleon replaced Ferdinand VII with his own son, putting Spain under French control ||

  • Cabildo- city council in Venezuela made up of criolle elites, they used revolution to serve white elite interests, not for general welfare of all
  • Llaneros- normal mestizos living in Venezuela, preferred Spanish rule rather than independence ||
